The Massapequa Lacrosse Club – Mohawks: Building a Community Through the Game
The Massapequa Lacrosse Club is more than a youth sports program — it is a community-driven ecosystem dedicated to developing young athletes, strengthening local pride, and sustaining Massapequa’s long-standing lacrosse tradition.
At the heart of the organization are the Massapequa Mohawks, the club’s official youth teams serving boys and girls from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Every player, coach, and family involved shares one common bond: they are all proud Massapequa residents.
Supporting the Broader Lacrosse Community
The Massapequa Lacrosse Club encourages families to participate in PAL lacrosse programs. While the Mohawks are not affiliated with PAL, the organization supports broad participation in lacrosse at all levels. The goal is simple: provide as many opportunities as possible for children in Massapequa to play and grow through the sport.
A True Community-Based Program
What sets the Massapequa Lacrosse Club apart is its commitment to being fully community-based:
- Players are exclusively Massapequa residents.
- Coaches are Massapequa residents, many of whom played collegiately and professionally
- Leadership is rooted in local families invested in the town’s future, with involvement from Kindergarten through High School.
This structure ensures that the program is built on shared values, community pride, and a deep commitment to the success of Massapequa athletes — not just on the field, but in life.
The Mohawks Program Structure
The Mohawks provide age-appropriate development designed to build skills progressively while keeping the experience positive and competitive.
🟢 K–2: Developmental Clinics
Kindergarten through 2nd grade athletes participate in structured developmental clinics. These sessions focus on:
- Fundamental stick skills
- Athletic movement and coordination
- Introduction to team concepts
- Building confidence and love for the game
The emphasis at this level is learning, fun, and forming friendships.
🔵 3rd–6th Grade: Town Travel Teams
Beginning in 3rd grade, players transition into competitive town travel teams. At this stage:
- Teams compete against neighboring towns
- Weekly spring practices build team cohesion and strategy
- Players participate in multiple tournaments each year
- Development becomes more structured and position-focused
This travel experience prepares athletes for middle school and high school lacrosse while maintaining a strong sense of town identity.
Year-Round Development
The Massapequa Lacrosse Club believes growth happens beyond a single season.
- Spring: Weekly team practices and games
- Tournaments: Multiple competitive events each year
- Winter: Indoor training to maintain skills and conditioning
By offering year-round opportunities, the Mohawks ensure players continue improving in a structured, supportive environment.
